The Essential Save the Date

Now, I may be a bit biased, but I’ll say it anyway: save the dates are just as important as wedding invitations! Allow me break it down. You’re engaged! HOORAY! All of your Facebook friends are aware of it, given your updated relationship status and pictures of the shiny prize on your finger. But it’s safe to say that all of your Facebook friends will not be invited to the wedding.

Once you set a date and formulate a guest list, you want all the invitees to mark their calendars. Maybe you haven’t booked a venue yet. You might not even be sure what the “theme” should be. These are generally prerequisites for ordering wedding invitations. But booking your guests is a priority — and all you need is a date to accomplish that!

simple save the dates

The Crystal Save the DateMadison Save the Date and Grace Postcard are all simple, eye-catching choices that don’t necessarily set the tone for the occasion. If you don’t have a theme or even color scheme picked out yet, you can easily go with a lightly-designed save the date. Nobody says your save the date has to match your invitation!

Another popular way to go is to choose a design based on your wedding season. Whether your nuptials and planned for Spring, Fall, Winter, or Summer — we’ve got you covered!

seasonal save the dates

The new Seersucker Save the Date is a fresh, summery design with a bit of prep to it! Perfect for heralding a spring garden affair, the new Sprig Save the Date has a sweet and gentle feel. Our understated-yet-sophisticated Pine Save the Date has autumn written all over it. And for the uptown winter weddings, the crisp and modern Skyline Save the Date is so very fun!

If you’re lucky enough to have photographs taken early on in the engagement, photo save the dates are a fantastic way to show them off. It’s unlikely that all of the wedding guests know both you and your fiance. Photo save the dates are an opportunity to visually introduce him or her to your family and friends… and flaunt what a beautiful couple you are!

If you have something in mind that you don’t see on the site, we’ll be happy to create something just for you that you can also use on your invitations and wedding day stationery. For custom design requests, we recommend ordering the DYO Save the Date or DYO Postcard.

I never really thought you could send save-the-dates without actually booked anything yet. But I guess it’s obvious – Invitations are for when everything is set in stone and save-the-dates are for alerting and reserving your guests!

    Good to know!
