Amy- Here at The Green Kangaroo, we ultimately believe that you should do what’s best for YOU. What works for your wedding may not be the same as what works for someone else’s and that is fine! The rules about when to do what are a lot less strict than they once were and individuality is encouraged.
With that said, we do have some general suggestions, recommendations and guidelines to consider. Here’s a handy timeline for you to reference:
We typically recommend ordering and mailing your Save the Dates 6-12 months before your wedding. Although, Emily Post does say that it’s acceptable to send your Save the Dates out as late as 3-4 months before your wedding. Invitations should be ordered 4-6 months prior to the big day and mailed approximately 8 weeks before (6 weeks is sometimes sufficient.) Programs, menus, place cards and table cards should be ordered 3-6 weeks before your wedding.
Other helpful dates to remember:
- 8 months before- create your wedding website (Wedding Wire, OneWed and Nearlyweds all offer wedding website templates that match some of our most popular designs!)
- 4 months before- finalize your guest list and submit for envelope printing or calligraphy
- 6 weeks before – send your wedding announcement to newspapers
- 3 months after- have all your thank you notes written and mailed
Please know that we (and other vendors) realize that some brides and grooms opt for a speedy engagement. In these cases, exceptions can be made and orders can be rushed. Just ask!
